Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 9 September 2026

This site targets WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Below is an honest account of what has been checked, what is known to fall short, and how to tell me if something blocks you.

1. Standard applied

This site aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act and by the Swedish lag (2018:1937) om tillgänglighet till digital offentlig service.

As a personal, non-commercial site run by a private individual, it is not legally required to meet that standard. It is applied because a portfolio that some people cannot read is a portfolio that has failed.

2. What has been done

  • All text and interface colours checked against WCAG contrast ratios in both light and dark themes, at 4.5:1 or better for body text.
  • Every icon-only control carries a text label for screen readers; decorative icons are hidden from them.
  • The whole site is operable by keyboard: menus open and close with Enter and Escape, focus is visible on every interactive element, and off-screen menus are kept out of the tab order.
  • A "skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page.
  • Form fields have permanently associated labels, correct autocomplete hints, and errors announced to assistive technology rather than shown only in colour.
  • Images carry meaningful alternative text; purely decorative images are marked as such.
  • Animation is suppressed for anyone whose system requests reduced motion.
  • Headings follow a single logical order per page, and page regions use landmarks.

3. Known limitations

Stated plainly rather than glossed over:

  • The GitHub activity graph on the Code page is rendered by a third-party widget whose markup I do not control. Its tooltips and colour scale may not meet AA. The same information is available directly on my GitHub profile.
  • The GitHub statistics cards are images generated by an external service. Their alternative text describes what they show, but the individual numbers inside them are not exposed as text.
  • The animated hero background on the home page is decorative and hidden from screen readers. It is disabled when reduced motion is requested.
  • Testing has been done manually and with automated tooling, not with a formal third-party audit or a full range of assistive technologies.

4. Tell me if something blocks you

If any part of this site is difficult or impossible for you to use, email stefanos@tzortzoglou.eu and say which page and what happened. I will fix what I can and tell you honestly if something is outside my control.
